Stepstone Group

Stepstone is a group of leading job site brands from all over the world. Each brand had its own distinct web presence, however the native app on both Android and iOS was built on a single code base with a mixture of native and web based screens. They are currently in the process of creating a white label app that can be feature switched for each brand.

One of the initial tasks I undertook was to design a native job application process that would be used across all brands. Each brand had up until that point been displaying a web based application form taken directly from the website. This was not optimised for apps and proved cumbersome to use, leading to poor application rates and negative feedback from users.

I began by conducting a content and feature audit across all the brands. The purpose was to find commonalities and also features unique to that brand.

I observed users and conducted research with jobseekers and recruiters to see how job applications are made and what the requirements for recruiters were. From this research I created a series of hypotheses and user stories from which to create wireframes and prototypes. Designs were initally tested using guerilla methods and the design iterated upon until a robust enough design was reached. Later, lab based testing was carried out for the german market in Berlin.

Following the user testing the design was tweaked further and a detailed specification was created for an MVP which is currently scheduled for development.

In addition to the application process I was responsible for the design of a number of other features including AI tools on the welcome screen. Onboarding process for new users. Setting up of alerts and notifcations. Saving jobs and job listings.

Richard Giazzi.  —  . Group Product Manager - Native Mobile Apps at StepStone

"If you need someone who's supremely talented at interpreting user behaviour and feedback into the best possible user experience, then Rick's absolutely your man. He's able to build incredible interactive prototypes, go out onto the streets to get first hand user reaction and then use those observations to influence and optimise the final UX definition. If your business depends on user-centric design, you need this guy."
