As the UX designer for the Financial Times' Climate Game, I was responsible for creating an intuitive and engaging user experience that effectively communicates complex climate science to readers. The project had to be delivered to a tight schedule to coincide with COP26 and so a small team was created with myself, one developer and one UI. We collaborated with the visual story telling team at the FT as well as climate experts and the IEEA. The gameplay allowed players to explore policy decisions aimed at achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. My focus was on ensuring accessibility and clarity, enabling players to understand the impact of their choices on global temperatures, thereby enhancing both educational value and user engagement. This also involved implementing the Game User Experience Satisfaction Score for the first time, which played a crucial role in the game's successful delivery and ultimately contributed to it winning an award.
